I have been reading up on this as the machine (2016) is limited to 75kms/hr (46m/hr). Nothing new here, but no one hascome up with a cheap resistor type mod to get around this that i could find. Honda Rubicon 500 EFI MAGNUM REVOLUTION-PRO ATV Speed / REV Limiter CDI Box
This is the only mod i could find, & you have to disassemble the CDI. I cant see me doing that to a 2 week old machine. Now you may say why do i need the extra speed? 1) cause its there if you free it up, 2) I paid good $$ for the machine so its my prerogative if i so choose -_-
Anyway, i may come up with some sort of inline resistor for speedo gear line the once the warranty is off, if i do i will post up the results.... until then, anyone have any ideas?

It's not limited to 75kph, it just runs out of power to travel any faster. I've figured out that my speedo is way off, more than any other machine I've ran similar sized tires on. I've hit 73kph on a decent downhill on the speedo. I did manage to GPS it at 77kph while the speedo was reading 62kph.

No man, I have played around with it. You can go 1/2 throttle & it still cuts off at 75/76. I even went by a Honda salesmen who said he could hear it cutting out. It will rev higher in a lower gear, & the dealer told me just this past week about that $160 box :O
Have to figure out a way trick the ECU into thinking its staying at 75 in order to get more speed out of it. ;)

The Foreman 500 uses the same motor and I've pushed those past 80kph on the speedo, so I know with stock tires it will do it. That box you linked to isn't going to do anything, the ECU on these are potted in epoxy so you may want to buy a spare if your going to try and take it apart and add some nice Chinese "magic boxes" to it lol On 25's you'll hit the RPM limiter but there is no speed limiter, there might be one at 70 MPH but not KPH.

Test drove the Deluxe Rubicon a few weeks ago - the top speed was definitely a deal breaker for me, not that I want to go faster but I don't want the engine screaming at 35-40 mph.

Well if i have to i will go make a video of me running it down the road with it cutting out. BTW, mine is ES not foot, so maybe different that what yours is.
& FYI it does explain in that link on removing the epoxy on the ECU.

You will NOT get that epoxy off and still be able to salvage the ECU. Buy whatever you want, take apart whatever you want, do whatever you want. It's your machine. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Thats alright... there are other ppl in the world (me)that have worked on electrical before. Besides... like i said in the 1st post, that box was the only thing out there for mods... i wasnt endorsing it.

would be nice if there was a gearing Increase for these new rubicons. The gears definatley could go to be longer.

If you actually want full control of your quads ECU the only way your going to do that is with an aftermarket ECU like a microsquirt. The problem is if the same ECU is controlling the transmission then things are going to become very complicated

My 2017 Rubicon is also speed limited to 75 KPH
If you hold the throttle down it will surge at 75-76 KPH
back off the throttle to about 3/4 and it stops surging
It would go a lot faster if the programming wasn't holding it back on the speed limiter

I believe you. My 2016 Rancher has an incredibly obvious rev limiter that you can hear engage in any gear. In 4th gear it hits at 36.5 mph, and in 5th gear it hits at 50.5 mph. In both gears it's till pulling well and then you hear/feel it bounce the revs. I can only imagine the Rubis and Foremans have their electronic nannies as well.

I'll be interested to see if you over come this limiter yourself. It's more than likely a fuel restriction at a given speed, early Land Rovers had this nonsense that was overcome by fitting a resistor inline.
I think you'll have great difficulty in finding where to fit a resistor and also getting that CDI apart without screwing it up.

Good luck, keep us posted .

Maybe with summer coming i will find the time to frig with it...havent been riding it much now that the nicer weather is here. I already have a diagram on the speed sensor, & the gear position indicator so it will come down to which is the easiest to get at & hook up. if i can only gain 5mph then there is not much point, but if the AFR is better in 4th, that may be the way to go, making the ECU think its still in 4th when in 5th ;)
